11 days in Ponsacco with children
After our stay in Carugate, http://www.topiwalla.com/2017/12/3-days-in-milan-with-a-family/, we now moved to Ponsacco, Italy where we stayed for a total of 11 days and 10 nights.
This was quite a decision to make as we were contemplating this place against other larger, nearby cities such as Bologna and Florence. However, as we had a car and also because we were sure we had picked up a fine at Piacenza by accidentally entering the ZTL, we decided to stay away from the large cities with a car. Instead, we chose to stay at this entire apartment in Ponsacco, Appartamento per famiglie sulle colline pisane. The owner of the apartment, Fulvio, is quite responsive and often helps with whatever questions you have. Ponsacco, was near enough Florence and also near Pisa and so we thought it would be suitable for us to spend a bit longer there.
The road from Carugate was great, the drive was actually meant to be around 4 hours but we ended up taking slightly longer as we decided to deviate from the route offered by google to visit a privately owned Maserati museum. This was really worth the extra time spent on the road. Check out
When we reached the unit, the one thing we did not realise was that this place did not have a lift and it was located on the 3rd floor. This meant that we had to chug all our suitcases up, so once again, we left some of our luggage in the car. However, by the 3rd day, as we were staying for a long period of time, we decided to move all our bags up.
The unit itself was marvellous and we showed to anyone who called as a trophy of a selection. It had a nice, large, flatscreen tv, a fully equipped kitchen and almost anything else you would need for both a short and long stay there.
The unit had 2 bed rooms, a large living area with a dining area as well.
During the stay here, we also realised that Arwa’s LiveUp membership gave us free access to Netflix for a total of 6 months! So we signed up for it and started watch movies and TV series almost every night 🙂 In fact, we ended up also buying a HDMI cable to connect the kid’s laptop to the TV so that Batul could watch Peppa pig and the kids could watch their shows on a larger, much more clear screen.
Our 10 days breezed past really quickly. Although quite a number of them were spent just staying at home and chilling out, on a few of the days, we ended up visiting
- Pisa
- Florence (twice)
- Livorno
We also celebrated the birthday of my son, Mustansir, there. My wife, knowing how much Mustansir loves pancakes, made a pair of panCakes for Mustansir and Batul/Shabbir to cut 🙂
Do tell me if you are keen to hire Fulvio’s place and I will ask him if he is keen on renting it outside of AirBNB which I doubt as he was quite keen to leave things on AirBNB as he does not usually have the capacity to meet tenants and prefers to keep things above board. But nevertheless, I will surely recommend this apartment to anyone who is going to the Florence/Pisa area. Especially if you are driving.
Obviously 11 days in Ponsacco are not required. I think a maximum of 5 days should be fine. But if you do want to just spend time at home, chilling with the kids, this is the place to do it.
